6' and a mask

Some four months ago (give or take depending on where you live) we were sent home to flatten the curve.  With the exception of our courageous health workers, volunteers, first responders, grocery clerks, delivery drivers and chefs continuing to fill empty restaurants with their cooking so we wouldn’t all be forced to embrace the sourdough starter, we spent weeks upon weeks at home.

A lot has happened since then.

What has unfortunately not happened is a return to normal.  Sure, I’ve sat at tables 6’ apart in parking lots a total of 3 times enjoying food that wasn’t cooked by me and wasn’t in a Chinese food box.  I have also enjoyed 2 (ok, more like 6) draft beers and 2 delightful cocktails (also not shaken by me).

It’s not the same as cozying up to the bar, bumping elbows with the annoying dude next me and chatting closely with the bartender about their cocktail or wine list. I miss that. I’m sure we all miss that.

But we’re not through this yet. States that had previously started opening are reversing their decisions. We need to continue to all do our part and stay home as much as we can. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy great wine. We published a wine drinkers guide to social distancing when this all started, but it still rings true today.  So regardless of how you have been handling the changes to your daily life, there’s a wine for you. Stay safe and healthy out there.
